Forest
Hills
Presbyterian
Church
has many events which bring people together for a good time
and to celebrate the gift of life together.
Among
those fellowship activities are:
|

|
Wednesday
Night
Fellowship Dinners
|
...A
great tradition
at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church is the Wednesday night fellowship
dinners. These dinners began in 1978, soon after the enlarging
of Larrick Hall. We normally have between 100 and 120 people who
gather together for good food, good fellowship, and good programs.
The dinners, cooked in the church kitchen by members and friends
of the church, begin at 6:15. There are announcements and the
sharing of prayer concerns, then the program begins at approximately
7 p.m. By 7:30, we are finished, and folks then go home, or head
to choir practice or a prayer meeting in the chapel.

. ...The
dinners we have are excellent meals. There is a salad to begin,
and the dinner consists of meat (chicken, roast beef, ham, pork)
vegetable and potato, and dessert. We don't know how our cooks
do it, but they continually give us a great meal!
...The
programs center around areas of mission, special music presentations,
Bible study, or getting to know one another better." In the past
year we had representatives from local mission groups, such as
Habitat for Humanity, lead the program. We've had studies on religious
groups such as Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. The Forest Hills
Singers opened the program schedule a year ago with a stirring
night of music and song.
...The
Wednesday night fellowship dinners are so helpful in developing
relationships in the church, and they help us celebrate our unity
in Christ. It is a good night out, and the cost is very reasonable.
The cost is $4 per person, $2.50 for children over 5, children
under 5 are free, and a family maximum is $11. We boast that you
can't beat the price for such a meal, and you get the program
and fellowship as well!

Dinner
Theater:
...For
many years the choir has been doing a dinner theater in the spring
of the year. This includes a wonderful candlelight dinner served
by the choir, and about an hour's worth of special music by the
choir. There have been songs from Broadway musicals, as well as
special selections by ensemble groups who sing songs by such artists
as The Beach Boys. The singing is great, it is a lot of fun, and
the congregation looks forward to inviting friends to this wonderful
dinner theater.
Keenagers:
...This
group of retired persons gathers on the first Tuesday of the month
for a program, then they share a lunch together. Sometimes the
group travels to a particular location for a show, or goes to
a museum together. Other times their programs consist of the sharing
of videos or slides from trips members have taken. The folks in
the group enjoy the fellowship, and look forward to the times
they can get together.

Chowdowners:
...Forest
Hills Presbyterian Church is a church that likes to eat. On the
third Monday of the month, the Chowdowners gather at Piccadilly's
Restaurant on Dale Mabry Highway at 6:30 for dinner (in a private
meeting room) and a program. There are usually about 35 people
who attend. It's a good way to get to meet people in the church.
Fifth
Sunday Luncheons:
...On
the fifth Sunday of the month (usually 4 times per year) we gather
together for a fellowship luncheon. Members and friends bring
a covered dish to share, and everyone enjoys the food and fellowship.
At many of these luncheons, New Members are guests of honor, and
there is a time to greet new members.
Senior
Luncheon:
...Several
weeks before Christmas we are in Larrick Hall for a luncheon honoring
the senior adults in the church. Food is prepared by church members,
and there is a nice lunch served by members of the church, followed
by a program. It is good fun, and the folks who attend look forward
to the luncheon every year.
Mother-Daughter
Banquet:
...This
annual event is held near Mother's Day, and gives an opportunity
for family and friends to get together. Women of all ages (from
infant through ?) are present on this day.
Christmas
Caroling:
...A
week or two before Christmas we gather together to travel to the
homes of people who are confined to their homes in order to sing
some Christmas Carols, and to bring the joy of the church to them.
This is very meaningful for those who are visited, and very meaningful
for the visitors as well.
Fun Fridays:
...The
Christian Education committee sponsors these events several times
each year on a Friday night, for children in the church and in
the community. There are lots of young people who take advantage
of the good time at these special events.
